I, personally, like Toshiba laptops and have owned 2 in the past. The first Toshiba laptop I owned was Toshiba M30 and it was pretty good. The one which I’ve now is Toshiba Qosmio F50-10Z which was one of the most advanced laptops when I bought it 3 years ago.

Toshiba Qosmio X770-11C 17.3 inch Laptop

Good news is that Toshiba hasn’t discontinued the Qosmio series and keeps on innovating and improving it.

And the bad news is, well actually there is none.

Toshiba laptops are not known for their sleekness as Sony Laptops are famous for. Toshiba Laptops are loved by geeks like me who are attracted to the completeness of a higher end laptops which include possible features you could imagine in a laptop.

For me, personally, the best Toshiba laptop would be the one which is lightweight, generates less heat (almost impossible), makes less noise and has no problems with the keyboard. sounds utopian fantasy isn’t it?

Replace the hard drive with flash drive and you get lightweight. Keyboard can be also fixed. The remaining two problems – heat and noise are going to stay for few more years to come so better get used to it.

I see Toshiba Qosmio X770-11C as evolution from the initial version of Qosmio laptops.

Entertainment System

Toshiba Qosmio X770-11C 17.3 inch Laptop is a powerful 3D gaming & entertainment sysgtem. The Qosmio X770-11C is a high end laptop designed exclusively for game lovers. Toshiba Qosmio X770-11C is a combination of powerful hardware, extraordinary 3D performance and stunning design features.

Processor

Toshiba Qosmio X770-11C is powered by the latest quad core Intel® Core™ i7-2670QM Processor which makes it a powerful laptop for gaming and entertainment. Intel® Core™ i7-2670QM Processor provides optimum processing power, with Intel’s Hyper Threading and Turbo Boost technologies.

Display

Toshiba Qosmio X770-11C 17.3 inch Laptop has a full HD 3D 43.9cm (17.3”) display which makes it not just a laptop but an entertainment system. The next-generation dedicated nVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 560M 3D graphics is what powers this laptop.

Hard Drive

It has 500GB Hybrid drive which also provides faster boot up times and not to mention it is more than what you need for all your gaming and entertainment needs.

Memory

Toshiba Qosmio X770-11C 17.3 inch Laptop has capacity of 8GB RAM which boosts it’s performance further.

Optical Drive

Toshiba Qosmio X770-11C has a Blu-ray RE drive. Opps! Blu-ray sounds too technical isn’t it? We are too well familiar with CD/DVD drives which are normally bundled with laptops. So seeing Blu-ray brings the firs question in mind which is it’s compatibility with CD/DVD. Don’t panic. this Blu-ray drive supports all of the CD/DVD formats and you can still enjoy the CDs/DVDs while enjoying the high performance Blu-ray disks.

This drive also allows you to burn your own Blu-ray disks.

Graphics Card

NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 560M with CUDA™ Technology is the heart of this powerful laptop which is ideal for watching your Blu-ray movies and it also provides vivid imagery when gaming.

Keyboard

Toshiba Qosmio X770-11C 17.3 inch Laptop Keyboard

Toshiba Qosmio X770-11C 17.3 inch Laptop Keyboard

It has full-size matt black tile backlit keyboard with 10-digit numeric keypad which provides easy typing. I like Qosmio keyboard.

Sound

I like Harman Kardon speakers which Toshiba uses for Qusmio series of laptops. Sound is stunning and it gives you an exceptional entertainment system. Dolby Advanced Audio gives a truly realistic sound for movies and gaming.

Operating System

Toshiba Qosmio X770-11C 17.3 inch Laptop comes with preinstalled Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium which gives high performance.

Interfaces

Toshiba Qosmio X770-11C 17.3 inch Laptop Interfaces

Toshiba Qosmio X770-11C 17.3 inch Laptop Interfaces

The best feature which I like in Toshiba laptops, and which is also the main reason why I’ve hooked up with toshiba, is the interface.

Most of the high end Toshiba laptops come with all the interfaces which you can think of.

Toshiba Qosmio X770-11C is no exception and it comes with usual RJ-45, external monitor interface, various SD slots and USB ports. the striking feature is HDMI interface which allows you to connect HDMI compatible devices and nejoy the high speed data transfer. HDMI also lets you to connect your laptop to the HDMI compatible TV directly.

It has integrated HD 3D web camera with 12800×800 resolution. It also has a built-in microphone.

Weight

Toshiba Qosmio X770-11C 17.3 inch laptop weighs massive 5kg which might turn you off to think it as a laptop. However you can’t expect it to be less heavy for such massive and powerful computing machine.

Pros

Toshiba Qosmio X770-11C 17.3 inch Laptop is an ideal laptop for home entertainment and gaming purpose. It’s screen size and high end processors and graphics card makes it an ideal choice for home entertainment system.

If you are not going to use it as a mobile system then it is an ideal laptop for serious and high end users.

Cons

Toshiba Qosmio X770-11C 17.3 inch Laptop is massive. 17.3 inch makes it more or less a desktop system than laptop.

Another problem with Toshiba laptops is that they heat quite quickly and it not only reduces the performance but also sometimes switches off laptop automatically.

I’ve faced overheating problem with my Toshiba Qosmio F50-10Z laptop. Even in a cold city like London it overheats specially in summer or in winter when heating system is switched on. I’ve used Toshiba Qosmio F50-10Z in India as well and it used to overheat often.

Toshiba Qosmio X770-11C with it’s massive screen size and high end processor and graphics card is bound to suffer from overheating problem as I don’t see any improvement with the heat reduction.

Toshiba Qosmio X770-11C 17.3 inch is not meant for mobility and you have to ground it at your home, even mobility inside home will be limited by it’s sheer size.

Verdict

If you are looking for a complete home entertainment system to replace your TV then this is an ideal choice. also if you live in a small house then you can use it as TV as well as a laptop.

    Hi Ajay,
I’m looking forward to buy Toshiba Qosmio X770-11C 17.3 inch Laptop. I was searching for reviews and found your post. Great review, tx for that.

You mentioned the overheating problem with Toshiba Qosmio laptops, could you elaborate more upon this? How serious is overheating? Does ti happen too often?

I intend to use this laptop heavily and if there is going to be overheating problem then i might have to look for other alternative.

Most of the high end laptops suffer from overheating problems. Toshiba high end laptops are notorious for overheating problem and it is a well accepted fact.

I had Toshiba Satellite M30 in the past and it also suffered from overheating.

now I use Toshiba Qosmio F50-10Z and it also suffer from overheating problem.

Overheating is not too serious specially in turning off the laptop. Once or twice in a year it will turn off due to overheating.

However if your room temperature is high then you might see it quite often.

When I was in India it used to turn off every night due to overheating tx to 35+ degree Celsius temperature.

The main problem is that it overheats up to such extent that you can no longer keep it on your lap. I use a wooden platform below laptop and even than after few hours I can feel the heat beneath wooden platform. I normally go for 2-3 hours in one sitting and I can feel the heat.

you have to live with the overheating problem as it is going to stay forever. You see there is a reason why we still have Desktop PCs. If you try to squeeze so many powerful chips in small enclosure without improving upon the heating system then problem will remain unsolved.

I would say don’t worry about overheating and go for this laptop.

Overheating is an issue with any high end laptop. As correctly highlighted, the problem is that laptops do not have sufficient space for airflow, and heatsink options are limited.

Due to the design of laptops, the fan intakes are usually on the base of the laptop, with an outtake at either side or the back. Therefore, if you have the laptop on your lap (duh!) or desk etc, the room for airflow is restricted, as well as being damn hot!

The solution is to buy a laptop tray with fans – these can usually be found for £10-£20 and can be USB powered. I’ve used these before and laptops that would usually powerdown due to heat issues after 2-3 hours can last all day. I’ve tested these on an Alienware laptop, which is one of the heaviest, hottest models available, and it definitely improves performance, as well as the lifetime of the laptop. Persistent heat issues can damage the components within the laptop, often requiring replacement processors or boards – expensive!

    Good said.
I never attempted to search for “laptop tray with fans”, my wooden plank just works perfectly ;)

Trust me my Qosmio gets so hot that it is impossible to touch it with finger, let alone keep on lap.

Even I blame overheating for melting down hard drive. I hear noises now. Have to replace hard drive. 3 yrs is too less to bury a new hard drive. I expected at least 5.

    Will never buy Toshiba again.

There are some haters. That’s obvious. Either they are from some other company than toshiba, or they just dislike the fact that this laptop is one of the most powerful gaming laptops on this planet.
I bought it, because I wanted to play the latest games in 3d… but i did never face overheating issues. And I can’t imagine how that should burn your fingers. Haters gonna hate, but I had the Toshiba sattelite 300 before and that one was overheating quite a few times… it got better, when i elevated the back of the laptop, so that fresh air could get into the system. With the qosmio design, there is an included feature under the battery, that elevates that laptop, but you really shouldn’t rest it on your lap…

    My final report:

    Overall performance: 95%
    Emission/Heat: 70%
    Gaming power: 100%
    3D: 100%
    Service/shipping time: 90%
Price: 100% (an alienware with that stats costs you about +800$

Great that toshiba provided the nvidia 3dvision 2 kit with this laptop, that would cost you another 150 bucks and is a HUGE improvement regarding the older first generation kit.

BE AWARE: TOSHIBA IS SOMEWHAT CONFUSING IN THEIR PRICE POLICY:
that one here costs less than some other laptops from the qosmio series, that have the 2630 intel core in it… that’s really strange.

i had a toshiba A500-11u and that would over heat, the only way i solved the issue was to clean the fans and internals regular with can’s of air, at its worst it would go over 100 degree’s to 105 then shut down, blowing out all the dust would drop it to a normal 40-55 degree’s, i was blown away with the A500 and im due to get a X770-11c next week and i cant wait, its gona blow my socks off.
and they are indeed a heavy piece of kit, my Gf has a samsung and my toshiba was easily twice as heavy as her model

I’m done with Toshiba, I would never buy it any more.

My next purchase will be definitely Sony with flash drive. I was thinking to replace my Toshiba’s hard drive with a flash drive but it isn’t worth as flash drives are expensive.
